Part of Florida’s fabled Palm Beaches, it’s no surprise that things to do in Boca Raton are as many and diverse as the folks coming down here for some outdoor fun. There’s everything from coral reef exploring to shopping at upscale shopping centers. Whatever tickles your fancy, you can be there’s a fun activity waiting for you at the sandy shores of Boca Raton. Here are a few things you might want to indulge in while in the city. Who knows, you might even get a chance to escape Florida’s humid and hot afternoons.

Visit the Mizner Park

Looking for somewhere to take a long relaxing walk? Head to Mizner Park. One of Boca Raton’s landmarks, the park draws a crowd on any given day. Designed by Addison Mizner, the park has an outdoor amphitheater, a museum, and a movie theatre complex. Close by you’ll find high-end stores, restaurants, and designer boutiques. It’s like going to an upscale mall, only this time, you’re surrounded by a tropical garden. Saying the park is good for a stroll would be an understatement. In summers, there are select events such as music concerts you can stroll into without paying a dime. You also get free parking in four separate garages and a choice of eateries in and around the park.

Red Reef Park

Red Reef Park is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon soaking in Florida’s breathtaking scenery. Located on one of the most scenic highways in the country, State Road A1A, the 67-acre park opens up a world of snorkeling, swimming, and surf fishing. You might also want to bring your golf clubs with you and take a few swings at the Red Reef Executive Golf Course. Should the kids tag along, take them to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and later treat them to a picnic right there in the park. After a day at Red Reef Park, you’ll know what they mean when they say it is one of the best-kept secrets in Boca Raton.

Check Out the Spanish River Park

Also known as Boca Raton’s Lagoon, the Spanish River Park once had a stream flowing on its west end. The stream grew into a river and today it is part of the Intracoastal Waterway. You can’t swim in the river though since lifeguards are down at Atlantic beach, but you can make your way to the beach through the scenic nature trail next to the river. There are lots of picnic areas equipped with grills, tables, and restrooms. If you manage to catch fish in the river, you might as well cook them right there. You’ll need a fishing license though.
